Comment on What to do when you want to move and your spouse doesn’t? by Ang https://moving.tips/bonus-tips-and-tricks/spouse-does-not-want-to-move/#comment-51482 Thu, 28 Dec 2023 13:37:54 +0000 http://moving.tips/?p=1466#comment-51482 In reply to Jules.

I agree, I looked this up to see if I am being unreasonable in asking to move because of being in pain. My fibromyalgia and degenerative pain go down significantly in warm weather and I feel held hostage in the freezing Northeast in pain every day. I dream of going from a 10 pain to a 2 rated pain in warmer weather. Thinking of leaving a long term relationship who is not interested in moving and helping me to feel more energized again.

Comment on How to find the best school for your child when moving by Thara https://moving.tips/bonus-tips-and-tricks/how-to-find-a-new-school-when-moving/#comment-51475 Tue, 05 Dec 2023 21:52:20 +0000 https://moving.tips/?p=3477#comment-51475 Heya.

This is what to do in order to find a good new school. Firstly make a numbered list of the schools that are located in the area. Visit them one by one. Use a typed up checklist to make things that much simpler. Interview some of the key staff and try to watch a lesson in progress in any case. That way you will be able to decide. Best wishes. Pick a school that fits your child’s personality. Not the other way around.

Read beyond the lines of the report too. Note down what is good and bad about the school in question as well. Talk to a few different pupils at the school in addition here. Make some brief summary notes. Pay very close and careful attention to what is currently going on in the school. Inquire about the exams, trips, homework, clubs, lessons and food. Try to have a face to face meeting with the Head about all of that stuff. This is important. Seriously.

Discuss the fees only at the end of the meeting. See if you can talk to people who are working at the local library and so on about the quality of education offered within the school. Request their opinion as a precaution. As you walk around the school, glance quickly at the classroom walls. If they are totally bare get a explanation quickly. Take a notepad. And a pen.

The classroom walls need to be covered completely within any school. In other words you should not expect to see boring walls at all. Insist on being shown a copy of the weekly menu, and view a copy of the school policies. If there are any old newspaper articles on the school read them all. Check out the website of the school. Often it will contain a lot of further information that can be really useful to read. Look for the glaring discrepancies in the reports. Highlight them.

Trust your gut feeling. Consider what it is trying to tell you. Take your own sweet time to check the finer details. You can do this. Make only helpful recommendations. Understand what is not said. Breathe in and out deeply. Smile. Relax. Get to know a bunch of the other parents. Speak to them. Appear friendly.

Meet again later on with the head to discuss volunteering to read and the like. Avoid all silly pointless quarrels however. You ideally want to be confident but not stupid. Forget money or size of the classrooms, neither are particularly important. If you have picked the right school you will know. Trust me on this.

I was confused when my strata manager asked us to book the elevator. I was thinking, can’t we just use it? Why should we book?

Comment on Moving because of bad neighbors by Marion Howard https://moving.tips/bonus-tips-and-tricks/moving-because-of-neighbors/#comment-51472 Sun, 19 Nov 2023 19:55:23 +0000 https://moving.tips/?p=3952#comment-51472 I thought I was in a bad place until I read all these comments ! However it makes me realize the situation could be a lot worse. Also it seems best to say nothing , do nothing when these people have NOTHING to complain about! They bully us because they are unhappy people obviously , and we are old.We have done no harm to anyone, have no noisy dogs or kids , though the drive was untidy but now clean and tidy . They just hate us ! They are also jealous because we have this large bungalow with a double garage and wide driveway . We even thought they want this place and are trying to force us to move ! They all live with small driveways and some have no nearby garage but think they own this road! Beyond arrogant and very well off but younger than we are . I feel sick ! Why have my lovely neighbours gone ? Mostly passed on now . Is this how things are now we have gotten old and disabled. Its like the herd mentality from the Stone Age or something . The old and sick will be driven out ! So I must remember ” silence is golden”. Very good advice!

Comment on Moving because of bad neighbors by Marion R Howard https://moving.tips/bonus-tips-and-tricks/moving-because-of-neighbors/#comment-51471 Sun, 19 Nov 2023 19:29:20 +0000 https://moving.tips/?p=3952#comment-51471 In reply to Louisa Settley.

I thought we had it bad ! But some of you people are having a terrible time with nasty neighbours . Mine moved in not so long ago and keep criticising my friend who lives with me . He does hoard stuff and now has been diagnosed with Alzheimers disease . He was homeless a few years ago and had nowhere to go and being a widow I was lonely . My home is detached but still the neighbours opposite and just down the road complain about us and where we park and my friends car being very old and the way he dresses . They threaten me and now we we are over 80 I am very upset . I have been here in this house for nearly 40 years , and we used to have lovely neighbours who have now died These newish neighbours said we were causing a rat problem when in fact everyone round here had them each Spring .
They said I should move in to an apartment and get rid of my friend and his car.
Its really outrageous .
I thought of getting legal advice but its very expensive.

I’m moving from Santa Barbara CA to Los Angeles CA. I’m moving a 2 bedroom home but am working to give away the 2nd bed as I plan to move into a 1 bedroom. I need storage as well since I do not yet have a home to move into. I’m renting short term in LA at this time.

I know you’re trying to be helpful Patsy, but it doesn’t always work that way.
I had a tornado insurance claim check for my old house that I’m moving out of, asked to change address with State Farm ins so the check would go to new house. Adjuster said she wasn’t able to change the address. Life isn’t as black and white as you make it out to be. It is the responsibility of the postal service to be able to handle a COA.

Comment on Why should I hire professional movers? by Enoch Huckbert Sr. https://moving.tips/pre-move-tips/why-hire-professional-movers/#comment-51458 Sat, 21 Oct 2023 05:39:27 +0000 http://moving.tips/?p=958#comment-51458 It’s terrific that you elaborate on how a professional service can spare you a lot of time and difficult labor when you have to relocate your belongings to a new home. My wife and I need to get our furniture to our new house within the next two weeks, so we’re considering hiring a professional moving company on Monday. I’m going to start looking for a reputable residential moving service in the area that we can hire.
